Toronto has started a webpage for downtown road construction projects occurring this summer. There is a lot planned - a lot of the worst streets in the city are getting redone this year.

http://www1.toronto.ca/wps/portal/contentonly?vgnextoid=6f3f89b8abbe3510VgnVCM10000071d60f89RCRD

1. Repaving Richmond from Church to York including reactivating TTC track from victoria to York
2. Mutual street repaved from Dundas to Queen
3. Queen streetcar on diversion for most of summer + fall for utility replacement
4. College rebuilt including BIA improvements in several sections (Bathurst - Euclid, Shaw - Havelock)
5. Shuter repaved Yonge - Sherbourne including bike lane improvements
6. Gerrard rebuilt including Bike lane improvements Yonge - Sherbourne
7. York repaved Wellington to Bremner
8. Wellington repaved University - York
9. River street completely redone and reconfigured - upgraded bike lanes, parking bays, removal of right turn channel at Dundas, removal of some stoplights
10. Mill street from Parliament to Cherry including sidewalk widening and paving improvements to reflect location beside distillery
11. Mutual Street rebuild from Queen to Dundas
12. Bayview repaved Queen - River st.
13. Beginning of construction for the Gardiner York Street Offramp replacement

Wishlist still includes Gerrard west of Yonge, Adelaide from University to Spadina, Various streets around the Queen West Triangle - Gladstone, Lisgar, Sudbury, etc., Several streets in Liberty Village. Hopefully we will see those in the next few years too.

Did the city specify what kind of "bike lane improvements" are planned for Gerrard and Shuter Street?

Add Shuter from Sherbourne to River to that wishlist, which is in even worse shape than the Yonge to Sherbourne stretch. However, we might have to wait for the completion of the development of the blocks along Shuter in Phases 2 and 3 of Regent Park for that stretch to be resurfaced.

I believe they would be similar to what they did to Harbord.. buffer areas and bollards. Gerrard, Shuter, and River are all getting it this summer, the east end bike network is going to be a lot better by the fall.

The real issue is when are they going to do something with Yonge?

Torontonians have gotten use to Yonge Street and don't realize what a dump of a street it is. It's one of the most pedestrian unfriendly street in the city with thin and decrepit sidewalk, pivots in the road that would embarrass even a Montrealer, and probably the only street in the entire city where you can't even sit outside to have a coffee little alone a meal.

It's so hypocritical of the city to ask current owners and developers to spend money on improving their buildings frontage when the city itself won't spend a nickel on it's main street.

Relax with the hyperbole a bit there. It's in the books, but probably just got delayed a year. The street is in good condition, it's just poorly configured. Utility replacement on Yonge is scheduled in the next few years, and it'll get reconfigured then.

Certainly an improvement, but if it doesn't prevent drivers from parking in the bike lanes then it could still be better.

When will a final design be selected for Yonge?

7. York repaved Wellington to Bremner

So this pretty much guarantees they will be digging it up next year for the PATH expansion.

Where do you see that? It says "repaved". Repaving does not involve completely digging up the road and constructing a path tunnel, it involves repaving.

It's a joke. You know: "If they're repaving it this year, that means they'll be tearing it up right away next year."

2. Mutual street repaved from Dundas to Queen

So, are they going to repave it, then rebuild it, or…?
