They have been competing with The Switch The Falcon and several other projects that came on stream just before they did I expect it will pick up going forward.

Not to mention comparatively lower priced older units in the surrounding area. Edmontonians seem to prefer value over vanity.

If the what-ifs align properly I could see an early start to phase 2 that would not only fix a hole in the street but would see all the advantages of the project in terms of amenities brought to the forefront.

Personally I have never seen a new unit with a layout as smart, efficient, and usable as places built in the 70s. When my ex and I were shopping for a condo a decade or so back, I eventually said I didn't want to see any more new builts because they made so little sense. Ostensibly the same square footage as an older unit but far, far less usable space. But that's moi.

Having lived in a couple of the 70s apartment buildings in Oliver, I concur. Not only do the floorplan make sense, the units are often bigger too. A reno'd unit in one of those highrises gives you much better value than most newer buildings

Yeah from a rental standpoint I completely agree. The only problems with older buildings from an owner standpoint is all the additional costs. Less people paying into your reserve and operational funds, aging mechanical and envelope concerns, amenities that are now extraordinarily expensive to operate and maintain.
It's really a shame, some of those 70s units in Oliver south of Jasper Ave near 117th street looked SO nice, but the fees woulda killed me to buy there.

As far as condos go, however, the floor plan of the Symphony seems quite good, especially taking advantage of tremendous river valley views.

Does anyone recommend any buildings in downtown to rent? I've been looking to move downtown and just want a nice building with a city view and a gym/fitness centre.

Falcon would be the best bet in my opinion tied with Qualico's development if you want to be near "things".

My girlfriend has a place at the Parks, the unit is really nice and the amenities are great. The gym is great as well. Not a budget choice though.
