during spring and fall I used to sleep around 6 when I lived in BC, chased Northern lights all night. MIss it.

That's a fairly depressing way to start the morning in particular the talk of the amount of wood in the structure. 160 will be a fantastic addition to the city and waving good bye to the parking lot is a positive, but man we are going to miss these buildings when they are gone. We should have a policy like trees that for every old heritage building that gets pulled down, there would be three renovated and protected.

This is the type of old building that should be protected. Not many heritage building this substantial in Toronto. But for small, dumpy storefront buildings like the ones at Dundas and Jarvis where they're building Social? Go for it.

It does seem like not orienting the tower north-south instead of east-west and including the entire existing building with a beautiful atrium was a real lost opportunity.

Something like Montreal's World Trade Centre could have been very cool:

Just tells you how easily we get satisfied with a facadectomy as the default response.

You sure? I could understand the red brick building behind it and facing University Ave.,
but really what value has this white soft brick warehouse have away from the front facade? which is going to be restored and kept

/\ That building isn't in the assembly for this project. The one to the west is. CF could still have fit the exact same tower in by changing the orientation. Why are you instead cheerleading its loss?

It's Toronto, so unless it's Allied there's not one firm who has that kind of unique imagination for historical incorporation. The rest of them dont really give a damn about history and are lackadaisical when it comes to it.

I am willing to cut a little slack in this case - CF did went with a decent architect, produced a decent design with what might be good detailing - but it is also unimaginative, smacks of old, tabula rasa thinking.
