Excellent point, @AlvinofDiaspar. Except perhaps for the original Dundas mall, which provided a grand entrance to Eaton's, the original Queen, Yonge, James and Trinity Square entrances were all underwhelming. Some work has been done on the others (James Street is the most improved, although it involved the sad loss of the old Salvation Army building), but Queen is still largely in its original condition.

Nice. Think it needs more windows facing the Eaton's Centre entrance, along with maybe a more interesting cladding material.

Hope they rework that red brick facade (introduce Yonge Street outwards retail?) along with the Queen St entrance to Eaton's Centre as well at some point, as it's looking kind of ratty at the moment.

I wish this project could just fill up the gap between the Galleria and the addition - it looks bizarre to have this 3s structure in between and a sheer masonry/curtain wall.

(Google Maps)

And yes, the renderings of the Yonge facade just goes and shows how the late 90s "contextual" addition looks - totally irredeemable beside the restored heritage structure. Doesn't respect the rhythm of the fenestration, the scale is totally off. Those embedded diamonds in the brickwork adds just that special touch of lipstick on that pig of an addition.

Oddly enough, I think H+P would be perfect for renewing both the Queen and Yonge side of Eaton Centre.

I don't believe it's large enough for a Simons.

I was going to say that as well, looks similar to the new Rideau Ottawa Simons. Which is also CF. Send atmosphere elsewhere and it would be big enough. No?

I wouldn't think so.

Perhaps my memory is wrong, but isn't the footprint here only about 12,000 sq ft?

Even if that ran over 4 floors, that's well shy of the typical Simons footprint.

Square One is over 100,000 sq ft.

Hmm they must be trying to figure out how and where to put a Simons. I'd imagine they want a location here, or nearby. At this point though the Well might be the quickest way to make that happen, if this spot isn't for them.

Would be small compared to the suburban Simons stores but would be similar in size to the Saint-Catherines St. Simons.

Simons is building a 92,000 square foot store in downtown Calgary (actually, I think it will be opening soon), over four levels in an old historic building. The Rideau Centre store is 104,000 square feet over two levels, a portion of which is in next to a rebuilt historic store facade (Ogilvy's).

If the footprint here is 12,000 square feet, then a four-storey store would only yield 48,000 square feet. Also, quite notably, the store would not have any connection to the main mall (quite unlike the Calgary and Ottawa stores).

Even if a potential Simons spread into the rooftop addition, it would still be significantly smaller than the Calgary store, and quite inefficiently spread over 6 or so small storeys. Lots of escalators. And still likely no interior connection to the main mall.

ETA: Just to be more accurate.
