How do they define ‘easily’? Things can be distinct without being incongruous like this.

I recall reading something in another thread recently about a proposal that had to be re-submitted to the city because the herritage additon was too similar in style to the original building. I can't remember whether the poster cited a specific city rule, but I distinctly remember someone saying that.
That being said I can't find any reference to that rule online but maybe I'm not looking in the right places.
To be honest, I don't think the addition looks terrible, just a bit unremarkable. I do kind of like how it appears to hover over the existing structure though.

Looks like they're preserving a lot here though. And keeping the integrity of the original design throughout its extension...

Great to see they revised it exactly as I would have wanted if they were to add more floors to this. Keeping the same facade design the entire height with the original penthouse break differentiating the old and new.

So we shouldn't build housing along a subway line?
We have a housing crisis, where do you expect people to live? Ideally yes we'd just replace the yellow belt instead but we all know that isn't going to happen so what is the answer if we cant build there and we can't build here?

Yes, the central city should intensify, and yes, some buildings are going to need to be replaced. But there are many, many buildings, including thousands of houses, in and around the core that could be replaced without any significant loss to the urban form or architecture of the city.
This is one of the few hundred best and most significant buildings in Toronto. Some things - a few things - should just be left alone.
