I've always loved that large loft building in the background of the last photo. Anyone know it's building name? I assume it is pretty old and thus has a sophisticated name. ;)

...I had a client that lived there. It's a great building...one of my favorite converted residential. Hope the owners don't get any funny ideas of adding tower bits to it.

Demolition is moving along at a rapid pace!

Two observations of the photo above, neither about its intended subject.

1) Is this the single most flattering pic ever taken of 'Social'? I mean if you ignore that little bit of spandrel peaking out......it almost looks passable.

2) Looking over at the Centre Court site........the heritage retention really doesn't work for me. Its just been to de-contextualized and feels like its tacked on to the new build. If they'd just replicated the scale/massing and materiality to the west, not necessarily pastiche, but creating a unified streetwall it might have worked much better.........but it doesn't.

Joel lives on a compound in the woods near Campbellville. Moved out of Merchandise almost a decade ago.
A good friend dated him in high school and then again in the latter 2010s. She wasn't too impressed with him as a human. My wife worked in high end restaurants around Toronto and would see him on dates. Bored as hell, every time.
He also lived most recently in that building on Yonge with a Frans in the base, across from Massey Hall.

Pantages Tower (by Core Architects) - ironically one of the first towers in the very early years of the condo boom that was the centre of discussion on UT pre-history.

2 facts about the loft building [The merchandise building] , yes there are some brilliant layouts , BUT the sound insulation between units, is abysmal , to say the least.
Also back when the engineering building was being built /2001, right to the west of this lost building Ryerson had a chance to build a 33 storey tower designed by Santiago Calatrava. The loft owners destroyed that possibility , and the city caved in to the loft owners .

This one looks like it's going to be a nice one.
If the final development looks somewhat like the rendering. With the dark cladding and trim around the supposedly mirrored like windows etc. Then this building should look very nice from afar in my opinion!
