If that's what's being spent on renders; the designs showcased therein already looking suspect, I think we have every reason to be concerned about the end product here.

Better than a Beer Store with surface parking

Not so sure. Yes, it's that abysmal.

, but it feels like little effort was put into this. Pretty bog-standard stuff.

Exactly; but when considering the molestation of the nice building fronting Queen............it goes from unfortunate to morally indefensible.

Gonna share a quick take here:

Good, never mind great architects don't need crappy clients.

Just say 'No'. I don't need your business; go pay someone else to embarrass themselves.

BDPQ are clearly capable, they've produced a fair bit of good product and some bordering on 'great'.
There is no excuse for this coming out of their office.

****

I can here some people muttering, no you have to accept bad customers.............

Actually, no you don't.

Canoe does not serve what McD's passes off as a hamburger.
It doesn't matter if a paying customer comes in and wants to eat dog food, they won't serve it.
They'll bend to a customer's preferences........quite a bit actually, but they won't knowingly produce a product they would feel ashamed of......

******

I know this personally, I've turned down work that I wouldn't want to be associated with.......

I understand if you're in an entry-level position and can't do that, because you might not be able to pay the rent.
But that isn't or ought not to be the case for a reputable architectural firm, planning firm, landscape designer, etc.

There's room to bend for a client whose budget is a bit tight, especially if they're a small home/condo owner or small business owner.
But this, is not that.

Have some pride in what you put your name on........

well this is quite the hot mess..

What an uninspired beast. It needs a least a 20 ft set back from the podiums roof at River street. Is it just me or are we can more and more ugly proposals this year? It's like Toronto developers are doing all they can to maintain what many people from this city and from outside feel about our ugly architecture being rampant. This thing needs to go back to the drawing board and the portion above the podium needs some major revisions.

Can't really get myself to liking this design. There's a bit too much going on and it overall lacks harmony. There's a fair amount of visibility for this site too, as this is an entry point into this stretch of Queen Street East once you cross the Don River (and also if you're going north along River Street). Similar to how the River City condo buildings act as kind of a gateway.
