For those interested in the site's brief history as "Tent City", I'd really suggest that you read Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall's "Down to This" where he spent a year under cover with the squatters. It's a really interesting read and a very important part of the history of this site.

Keep in mind that high-rises at this location shouldn't be like Harbour Square, which takes up so much space at ground level that it cuts off a lot of access to the lake and allows for little in terms of public space.

I doubt Shelbourne could afford a phone number. Yeah, I'm sure 1000 six plus figure condos would sell out in no time at the mouth of the Don River channel. We can't forget the dozens of financial institutions still licking their gaping wounds lining up to finance a proposal such as this. Yeah, finance one building that will take seven or eight years to build instead of spreading the value of the debt among seven smaller projects that will take two or three years to complete.

Thats awsome! I hope they follow Waterfrontoronto's keating channel plan. They do some exceptional work and combining those plans with a starchitect's design will bring us one hell of a development!
 
I can't wait to see how they reuse the heritage silo structure that bookends the downtown waterfront.
 
Right-on, Great news that Cityzen Developments will develop these lands including the silo. A Pier 27 type of project here might look fantastic. Im keeping my fingers crossed that Cityzen also purchases the lands of the Canada Malting silo at Bathurst and Queens Quay thats up for sale....then we can talk about bookends.:)

The public space and building shape reminds me a bit of Tsing Yi's mall with a train station under it. Would be nice if the could extend the board walk along the water all they way from east bay front to here and add trees a long the path. It's a nice walk during warm weather.
 
Maybe a bit off topic but I have no where else to put this... Does anyone know why the intersection of Cherry st and Lake Shore have a very strong natural gas-type smell to it? Surely someone else has noticed this, because I smell it every time I drive along Lake Shore.

There used to be an oil refinery (or at least oil tanks) in the area and others have mentioned this smell elsewhere in UT - it is quite obvious some days. Any building work in the area means lots of soil cleaning - that's why most of the soil was taken from the West Don Lands site, which was also former industrial land, and why Waterfront Toronto has a 'soil scrubbing' site in the Port Lands.
