St. James Town West Park Revitalization

March 17, 2021

This is the last week to complete the online questionnaire, here in Arabic, English, and Simplified Chinese and here in Tamil for the redevelopment of St. James Town West Park. The questionnaire will close on Monday March 22.

DTAH are working with the City of Toronto to make improvements to the park at 589 Sherbourne Street. Redevelopment in the neighbourhood has created an opportunity for a fresh design of the park that meets the needs of the vibrant and diverse St. James Town community.

@DavidCapizzano has been talking about this site on Twitter, where he posted this:

This made me have another look at the permits...............so far only one of the demo permits has been updated to 'issued':

The others continue to say 'ready for issuance'.

but yeah, the notices went up a few days ago? The park is still open and there doesn't seem to be any action on the site as of yet. The breakfast joint at the corner of Howard and Sherbourne is still open. I think this is the building they're planning to demo - this is extremely close to where I live so I'll try and provide updates

LOL. No actually, insofar as I'm not on Twitter (I imagine my ID under that name may still exist, but I haven't logged in to it in ages). But I do read it; including your posts, among many other UT'ers. I just have folder of links to various people's Twitter threads.

They have permits in process for all of the buildings except the one on the corner w/Howard.

The building for which the permit has already been issued is to the north:

@DavidCapizzano delivered us evidence of of impending development in the form of a sign back in September.

That sign is still on site, albeit in a somewhat abused state:

But there are now 'signs' that the sign's words did in fact foretell of some action:

Construction Fencing has now closed off the majority of the park:

While any actual demolition is minimal at this point, equipment is clearly beginning to arrive:
