Is there a term for architecture that just assumes whatever massing will meet planning rules around shadowing, density, etc. to maximize floor space? Why have elegant setbacks when you can just put in awkward slants wherever needed.
 
I can dig those angles...but I'm not sure what was wrong with older design they needed to change it so radically.
