Is there a term for architecture that just assumes whatever massing will meet planning rules around shadowing, density, etc. to maximize floor space? Why have elegant setbacks when you can just put in awkward slants wherever needed.

I can dig those angles...but I'm not sure what was wrong with older design they needed to change it so radically.
Not all of IBI stuff turns out to be dull spamdrel hell...err, most of it does though. /sigh

It's like a less graceful version of New York city's setback rules.
That being said, I do like how the new proposal clearly delineates its two volumes; some condo towers are happy to just slice the top off a box and call it a day.
