...as mentioned in the BlogTO article - our volunteers had helped to arrange at least One (1) unit at 91 BARTON as an "Affordable Rental" unit for 25-years --- with ZERO government support, and that could have grown with help from the City and CMHC...

 
CoA is such an absolute NIMBY clown show.

It's not always NIMBY, but it's definitely the municipal body that can make municipal governance seem broken and dysfunctional. For instance, council enacted a bylaw that prevents people from paving over their entire yards.

It's a great idea to restrict that practice because fully-paved yards result in more stormwater runoff. They exacerbate flooding issues in storms and the urban heat island effect during heatwaves. They also reduce a neighbourhood's greenery and can preclude tree planting, thereby making neighbourhoods less attractive.

But all it takes is a minor variance to get around the bylaw when building a new home. The committee of adjustment will often grant the variance even if someone objects and cites the bylaw.
