Interesting that the losing proposal kept the Lorne Building's facade.

I think it has some nice features and should be retained.

That entry looks pretty sharp. I wouldn't mind seeing that concept materialize somewhere else in the city.

Looks like they pushed it up to 20 floors.

Proposal for rezoning related to the construction of a 20 storey non-residential building with retail uses at ground and commercial uses above
Proposed Use --- # of Storeys --- # of Units ---
Applications:
Type Number Date Submitted Status
Rezoning 17 275276 STE 20 OZ Dec 13, 2017 Under Review

Updated description:

Zoning By-law Amendment application to facilitate the construction of a 16-storey (plus mechanical penthouse) non-residential building with retail uses at ground and commercial uses above.

The architectural plans suggests the proposal pretty much as reported by UT earlier - this section has got to be one of the odder ones around:

And the mast is bifurcated at ground level for a reason - to allow for a pre-existing public laneway:

And the mast itself actually holds one of the fire escapes for the addition. The floorplate is also slightly off-rectangular, which makes it read "not quite right".

Too bad about the Lorne Building. It's a decent example of Moderne architecture. I wonder why the city didn't insist on its proper incorporation within the new structure.
