So I was flying in to YYZ from the west last week when I peered out the window from my nap to wonder where we were. My eyes scanned the landscape and, yes, lo and behold, the Absolute towers! You can't miss them and they certainly stood out amongst the other buildings.

I have seen it up close. This wasn't hard to do because it has been "almost completed" for nearly a year now. I didn't see the paving stones and the artwork, but I did see how the completed towers related to the dinky podium (which, I assume, wasn't part of MAD's design), and I noted how the fact that such a curvaceous building ended in a flat roof - as if somebody had taken a hacksaw to the top - as being a little jarring.

The building looks fantastic from far away in the sunset. Up close, it's another story.

To each their own. I have to disagree; I feel they look better up close as they have this sort of CGI look. I remember a while back in this thread posted how they thought the top should be "finished" with renders and at the end of the day, anything but a flat top looks ridiculous.

I don't like the way they did the lighting at the corner, around the horses. There should have been in-ground and direction lighting, but they instead have these extremely harsh lights mounted on approx 12' poles. They have caps on them to keep the light from going up into the units, otherwise the light is 360 degrees and is extremely irritating. You can't look at the horses or the buildings because all you can see is bright white hotspots from the ridiculous lighting.

That said, I find myself needing a new place and I'm going to look at a unit later today, which will be my first time inside. Not sure which floor or which direction I'll be facing, but I'm eager to take a more in depth look.

And I haven't "walked" by these buildings, but every time I drive by Hurontario/Burnhamthorpe I'm just in amazement.

I liked the comment on how they look CGI. They DO look CGI ... in real life! It's crazy!

I think something akin to the Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, BC would have complemented the towers quite well, but I too am fine with the current podium.

Will passing the site today, only one small section of fencing is still up at the north end and that to protect the fresh concrete sidewalk that was just pour. It will be gone Thursday.

This leaves the paver work for the sidewalk for the whole area to be finish, but you can walk there now.

For those wondering, the taller building (60 Absolute) is finally closing and being registered this month. My closing is on May 17th. Almost 6 years after purchase!

I know that others appreciate the revolutionary shape of these buildings, but every time I see pictures I am reminded of the flexible hose that is attached to the back of laundry dryers. I couldn't overcome this impression when I first saw them from the surrounding Square One streets about a month ago. Guess I need to see corners somewhere on skyscrapers.

I used to work in outside sales in a territory that included Mississauga when these two towers started going up, and I have been fascinated ever since. I have in that time not once taken my camera out though. I watched them grow up, but have never taken a single photo. This weekend I found myself with some free time and made the trip.

I spent maybe 45 minutes walking around and snapping, and these really are stunning buildings. I could have spent hours more and still been finding new angles. Other than the balcony panels, I don't think you can find a straight line anywhere, and they just seem to glisten as if wet. They pretty much photograph themselves.
