Of course, but knowing the intent can improve one's appreciation (or at least one's understanding) of the result. Take the work Straight by Ai Weiwei recently shown at the AGO. Knowing the context made his pile of rebar more than just visually interesting. And it is a heritage building after all; a word on its history would be appreciated.

Except that architecture is fundamentally different from an exhibit in a gallery. A piece in a gallery is only seen by people who seek it out. It has no impact on anyone else. Architecture, OTOH, is a functional piece of the built fabric of the city that people use every day. It affects people and the streetscapes around it. Gallery art can be abstract and not have any real function while architecture doesn't have that luxury. Architecture can be art, but by its very nature it's an art form for the masses. If functionality is sacrificed for artistic expression then it fails as architecture.

In any case, I haven't seen the ghost wall for myself.
