Ask Mayor Ford - he's the one claiming to have transformed Rexdale into Rosedale LOL

I am curious as to when construction will start as well. I have been waiting for this thing to start for years. I drive by every day on my way to work and never see any activity. They do seem to be doing some kind of construction work on the north end nearest Rexdale but this could be related to the road work being done (anyone know anything about this?) I was also wondering what resources everyone on here uses to find out about the project (news, forums, woodbine live website <--because that is updated so often /sarcasm)

Buried in the middle of an article about school enrolment levels in Rexdale, there's an interesting quotation from a TDSB spokesperson about Phase 2 of Woodbine Live (that's the proposed residential/office portion).

"The anticipated enrolment from the 555 Rexdale Boulevard (Woodbine Live - Phase 2) development proposal of approximately 2,500 residential units is not included in the enrolment projections but will be considered in the long-term planning of the area," explained Genna Schnurbach, a TDSB spokesperson. "The residential component proposed in the second phase has not received planning approvals (from the city) and is not expected to be approved within the next five years. Once the types of residential units are approved, student yields can be more reasonably estimated."

Phase 1 still hasn't received final planning approval (so no construction can begin) and it looks like Phase 2 is an even longer way off.

Anyone ready to start placing bets (no pun intended) on whether this project will move forward at all?

Maybe the proposal is stuck in the planning process because there were too many parking lots in the orginal plan. I liked the idea of the race track and the retail development but all of it was too car oriented. The design had larg tracks of parking lots. In addition it didnt even show you how the development would related to the Finch West LRT.

Dont think this whole Woodbine Live should ever be built in my opinion. There is no need or demand for this in that area at all. I worked by Highway 27 and Finch and hated the area, for many justifiable reasons that I wont get into. My point is that even Woodbine Center is stuggling there, most name brand stores have pulled out a good while ago, salons are struggling, restaurants as well as most people in that are are more cultural, eat more at home. The flea market on the other hand is always busy. Im not trying to bash the area, but a large project like this would be much better elsewhere.

any updates on this project? I thought construction was to being fall of 2010.... whats the hold up?

Well according to David Cordish its still alive and ready to break ground.:)

We just broke ground on Philly Live!, an entertainment venue in Philadelphia. Our biggest project is Woodbine Live! in Toronto, where we have a casino and residential, office, retail and hotels — everything. We’re getting close to breaking ground.

I wouldn't write this one off, the lack of information is quite typical with such big developments up front, it's the sort of thing that'll randomly just start construction one day.

Again it would be nice for the race track and bombarider to witch land.... It would allow higher condos arround yorkdale and it would give downsview park an extra attraction....

I am sure a runway could be constructed on the Woodbine land.... Its in a area that already has airplanes so that wont be a issue with the residents in the area... PLus it gives the new downsview park/woodbine track Subway access....PLus if Toronto ever was to get a actual CASINO this would be a decent location... Casino/race track/ Possible NFL franchise/ Downsview Park And it allows Yorkdale to build TALL condos on their parking lots in the future (because there wont be any height restrictions anymore due to the airplanes)
