The City can enforce "Property Standards" and if owner does not make repairs the City will make them and add cost to taxes. Then when/if taxes are not paid the building can be sold. QUESTION: Are there actually any Property Standards orders in place?

Can't imagine anyone at the city wants to deal with the resulting retaliation from the COS if they did force something here.

What can they really retaliate with? I live around the area and I am so sick of seeing this ruin. If nothing else, this can be a homeless shelter as that's a problem around the area.
Maybe start a partition would be a good idea?

Apparently SoC Toronto Chapter has no money... they have very small number of members and the main organization doesn't want to invest.
That's what I saw on some reddit threads anyways. Seems like no one can do anything? So weird to let this hazard of a building standing so close to the richest area of Downtown.

Behind the neglect is a sharp building. Between the ribbon windows, brick facade and marble ground floor, restoring would make some really satisfying before/afters.

It's definitely a very handsome building in a style that we don't have a lot remaining examples of.

I know some here, as seen above, have an appreciation of the clean-lines, modernism on display............I'm not one who appreciates any aesthetic virtue here, looks like a box to me.
That said.......
We can all agree that letting the thing rot, while neither replacing, nor repurposing it is a sin.
Its not only a blight on that section of Yonge, as is 10 St. Mary....may I add...
But we have a housing crisis.........and here sits an empty building.............
On the one hand, I want the City to seize this for arrears so we can do something useful with it........... on the other............. @HousingNowTO will be only too happy to discuss the awful
neglect of 265-277 Wellesley which the City already owns..........and is heritage...........and vacant.

What's the incentive for them to take their jobs more seriously and show a proactive mindset? Are there any mechanisms for removal for mediocre job performance?

265-277 Wellesley is a tragedy cuz those are some good looking exterior. I do have more problems with the SoC building and 10 St.Mary, Yonge is supposed to be our iconic street, and it currently does not feel great to walk through. Especially these two buildings being where they are.
To that extend, I hate it that Kingsett doesn't do upkeep on their buildings. I wish there are just some regulations on the whole of Yonge street in terms of maintenance.
