I kind of wish this station partially spanned the DVP, to provide easier access to a station for the Canary District/eastern end of the Distillery. At minimum, I hope the pedestrian bridge at least happens.

For now, the closest crossing isn't too bad.at Lower River Street and Eastern Avenue. The Eastern Avenue Bridge just opened back up to Pedestrians and Cyclists on the south side. I posted it in the Eastern Avenue Bridge/DVP Interchange thread. It's maybe a 10-15min walk to the Hub from there, depending on how fast you walk.

Ahhh city planning at its finest “hey guys we’re going to build an elevated track and we know Broadview is coming south to lake shore but because it’s on another line item we will not build a bridge where one will be needed and instead blast open an opening right after we finish the Ontario line construction” because why would you build it right the first time??

Check out this recent post from another page and the ensuing discussion. The same people are working on both projects, and they made a video about it all, which contains certain delivery dates.

They sure padded the name of the place now... /sigh

They can't be serious with this bland boring box station design. The only justification for this imo is if they're planning to cover this thing in towers and a big hub type design would prevent that.

There's really no justification for it, other than Metrolinx and the Government penny pinching because they dont care and want to build the cheapest thing possible.

But we all know how grandiose this station would be if it were a parking garage.

I remain optimistic that a far better station design will emerge in the future.

seriously. i mean look at the Ontario Place parking garage. that money could definitely be spent on this station instead. what an insult to transit riders tbh.

Again.. there is no parking garage subsidy at Ontario Place, or at least only a relatively small one. The province is anticipating it will be a profitable garage (or at least cover its own costs). It's a pay-for-use garage which will see a lot of regular turnover for visitors to the Science Centre, Therme, RBC Amphitheatre, BMO Place, etc. It's not equivalent to a transit project which requires operating subsidies heaped on top of a 100% capital write-off.

The Ontario Place garage is wildly expensive, yes. But if it gets anywhere close to the amount of traffic expected of it, it will pay for the vast majority of the cost on operating profits. The province is spending $400 million on it but is anticipating $60 million in annual revenue.

You really have to walk that back. It is a cost incurred on behalf of a private operator, for which the government is liable.

That is subsidy by any reasonable description. Will that subsidy be offset by revenues?, clearly the answer is yes, how much so is a matter of some conjecture.

Excluding amortized cost of construction, a garage like this will have at least a 15M annual operating tab (lighting, staff, security, routine maintenance etc.

Really? If East Harbour Station is a prerequisite for the development proposed by Cadillac Fairview, What would the resulting tax generation look like?

Would a 'trophy' level of architecture here enhance that number by even 6-8% per annum?

Maybe it's not such a write-off after all.

That's a big IF.

Let's use my numbers above.......and assume, 45M in net operating revenues.

But you have to offset ~400M in debt, financed at ?? ( let's assume it's general government debt, which is being generous, ~4%)

Annual Ammortization ~13M per year. (at commercial rates ~18M)

So, net profit is something like 32M, maybe.

Your profit covers your costs to break-even in 16 years.

That's below what business would typically accept for ROI.

I expect more than double that on my investments.

Hypothetically, what would the price tag befor a "trophy-level" East Harbour Station? Double the current cost?

^It will likely double in costs anyways. Having bean counters design the thing doesn't mean they'll actually save money...now or even in the long run.
