IF... and it's a big IF... they could continue with the discount fare between GO, UPX, and the TTC, then people would want to transfer at Mt. Dennis Station to get to the Union Station. Especially to get to and/or from a game at the Rogers Centre, Scotiabank Arena, or trade shows at the Toronto Convention Centre.

Some will go to Union, and would benefit from a seamless GO RER integration.

Yet, other riders from the west will want to go to York U or Yorkdale, and then they need to transfer to the subway at Eglinton & Allen. Or, they will want to go to Yonge / Eglinton, or North York stations near Yonge, then they need to stay on the Eglinton train till Yonge. A linear transfer at Mt Dennis is still less than desirable.

Instead of using Line 1 to get ot York University, people could use the Jane LRT. See Jane LRT at this link. Cancelled by Ford Nation. o_O

Then they would have to make another transfer at PV or walk that 15 minutes making it less attractive option.

They were working on locations for surface stops along Jane Street (north of Wilson) and Steeles Avenue West before terminating at Pioneer Village Station.

As it is, the buses on Jane Street will be using the Mt. Dennis Station. They are undecided currently on what would happen with the bus routes with the Eglinton West LRT.

They already had like 40K people taking the York U buses from Sheppard West Station to York U. LRT wouldn't have been enough, especially on Jane st.

30K people already use York U station, with another 30K using Finch West and Pioneer Village. Jane is quite out of the way for York U students. They should certainly build it, (and probably run it to 407 or VMC), but it couldn't replace the TYSSE,

^I'm wondering if the combination of Eglinton LRT and RER to Mount Dennis will change the ridership assumed for Jane. Especially if GO-TTC cofare is restored.

South of Wilson or Eglinton, Jane Street would be too narrow. Would have to go underground (except for Eglinton Flats).
Even at that, would it be possible to end the line at Mount Dennis and have BRT service south of Eglinton?

The Jane & Eglinton stops would become a transfer stop/station.

Why not continue the LRT down to the JANE STATION and even further south to reach the South Kingsway & The Queensway? A new version of the original Belt Line Railway?

The Eglinton Crosstown LRT is the modern version of the original Belt Line Railway that was located just north of Eglinton Avenue, and which is partially used as a bicycle path today. See link.

Honestly someone needs to step up and say screw cars. We're taking one lane each direction away for the LRT. Go use the 400 or another road nearby if you don't like it. Even with BRT, there is no space for another lane. We can't afford to continue to plan transit beyond 2041 the current way.

Jane is a case that doesn't need a subway but a major improvement over mix traffic express buses. It's in the same boat as Finch West with lots of local trips taken. Maybe a grade separated section between Wilson and Trethewey to avoid a few congested spots.

Flaw 1: The Metrolinx business case does not factor in development benefits, which would easily increase all CBA numbers to above 1, likely 3+
It's also worth noting that no business case analysis that was done previously assessed the maintenance and renewal costs with opening day ridership levels

Flaw 2: Getting cars off the road and onto public transit, moreover creating a mindset supports living in dense spaces while taking public transit is the complete opposite of "bad for the planet"

One potential option is to install LRT on Jane between Eglinton and Steels (where most of density is located, anyway), and operate it as a branch of Eglinton LRT.

The section of Jane between Eglinton and Bloor could then be easily served by a mixed-traffic bus, the demand would be pretty light. Yes, an extra transfer for those who want to reach Bloor from north of Eglinton. But, mitigated by the fact that they will have a one-seat ride to Spadina subway (at Allen Rd), and then can take the subway south.

The bus could even continue south of Bloor down South Kingsway and reach Lakeshore, if there is enough demand for service that crosses Bloor.
