https://venuesnow.com/toronto-esports-arena-project-on-hold/ (article dated Nov. 15, 2023)
The project has been "delayed over the past year, due in part to financing issues".
The "esports phenomenon has slowed down significantly". "No one is making any money".
"The business plan requires the hotel to be built before the esports arena breaks ground".
Bob Hunter "left the firm in July and is no longer under contract".
"Alyson Walker, OverActive Media Group’s chief commercial officer, said the project is still moving forward and that an update would be announced in the coming weeks."
Alyson Walker, whom herself is leaving OverActive Media:

I think everyone sees the writing on the wall for this, this project is as good as gone as we know it.

I've always viewed this as wishful thinking and with a dash of vapour ware...

I get so irritated with the back and forth I just want dumb plans to be built instantly so we can get to the failure and reimagining stage quicker. Just like I wish they’d come right out and say they’re building a casino at Ontario Place instead of trying to sell that “6m visitors a year to this super spa!” Nonsense and going through the motions.

clearly a lot of misinformation going around - Therme's own website says they expect to attract "up to two million visitors a year" - not 6 million.

The 6 million figure is for all of Ontario Place, including the Molson Ampitheatre, park spaces, and Science Centre.

My concern would be how much longer OverActive Media will keep pretending they're going to build this thing when it's apparent to everyone that it won't happen. Does their agreement with the city/Exhibition Place expire at some point? Would someone have to buy them out to make them go away? The doubt over what might be happening there could stop something else from being built, and also leaves uncertainty with events like the CNE and Honda Indy regarding their use of the site.
