I'm always surprised how shallow foundations are downtown, but then I remember the CN tower doesn't even go 7 metres below the ground

Very true. Toronto's downtown is lucky that the bedrock is so close to the surface so it is easy to attach too.

I don't see what difference it makes, once this building goes up you'll never see it.
