^ So I'm assuming the only built-up section in Drum's photos (above) is the TTC connection?
 
Sept 11, 2011 Update:

So they seem to be moving pretty fast, with lots of concrete being poured. They'll start laying the floor boards in the south east corner then move clockwise to the other quadrants. They'll usually lay one quadrant and fill another quadrant each day. I guess things move a lot faster once the footing are all in place.

They're also doing some kind of shoring along Yonge Street and blocking one northbound lane at the same time. This work seems to happen only during the weekend, but still causes quite a backup if your approaching the Yonge and Sheppard intersection from the south.

This weekend they have closed the two right lanes on Yonge northbound at Sheppard. Because of this I have seen traffic on the 401 westbound collectors backed up all the way to Bayview (from all the cars getting off at Yonge northbound). A lot of drivers turn right on to Avondale and Glendora to avoid Yonge, and end up getting stuck in traffic on Tradewind and Bonnington trying to get to Sheppard. From 8 am to 8 pm it's a constant line up cars on Bonnington/Tradewind from Sheppard to Glendora.

Thanks for updates; nice pictures and angle! I just passed Y&S, the shoring is very close to the lane, if not right on it. Re SW corner--there will be retail, probably new MacDonald's etc. Check this thread:

Hint: Notice that yellow shoring machine on Yonge Street is very close to the boarded up (white) ventilation shaft. Also that cement truck pouring concrete is close to the other ventilation shaft at the south-east corner of Yonge & Sheppard just south-west of the emergency subway exit where that odd bank machine and camp fire sculpture was.

My guess is the yellow shoring machine is there to shore up the new TTC Yonge-Sheppard Subway ventilation system. Remember a few years ago, Yonge Street just north of Finch had lane closures for a couple of years as the Finch Subway station got new ventilation system. They were supposed to do Yonge-Sheppard right after that but held off due to the proposed Tridel-Hullmark Centre and EmeraldPark construction, which hadn't started at that time. Both Tridel-Hullmark Centre and EmeraldPark are responsible for helping the TTC with the ventilation shaft work,... that's why the Emerald Park shoring machine was working near the Tridel-Hullmark Centre. It looks like Yonge-Sheppard subway station is getting their new ventilation system now.

I had posted my own comments in the Emerald Park thread before I read the above postings:

Sunnyray is right on about the drilling for the ventilation here; on Sunday they had the northbound curb lane blocked with pylons (you can see them in Jivey's picture) and concrete curbs to allow room for the rig and the associated equipment--the work was going on at the time.

I was not by there today, but it looked like this work will be taking place for a while; the sidewalk on the east side of Yonge was also blocked with instructions for pedestrians to use the west side sidewalk. I imagine that the northbound traffic from 401 to Sheppard will be backed up the morning and afternoon rush hours.

On Sunday afternoon it looked like rush hour on Yonge going north.

Obviously everyone is now well aware of the traffic tieups for this necessary work--thanks for the explanation Sunnyray.
 
Okay I take it back; there was no sign of any of the blockage of Yonge Street today (or yesterday either apparently).

They did all of the work in one day, probably just to prevent huge tieups with two lanes closed. All that remains is a patch in the road and some yellow lines that mark where the curbs dividing off the lanes were placed. It was nowhere near the length of time that was required for Finch and Yonge so maybe it was not ventilation work.

The shoring machine is back on the Emerald Park site--maybe Jivey can get another picture.

On a further note; since last Wednesday a backhoe has been taking down the last earthen ramp from a position on the top of the ramp. It is a laborious process that probably takes longer than the ramp's original construction. It looks very precarious, perched right at the edge of the area it is digging up.

This means full steam ahead for the podium and the rest.

No one will begrudge you if you serial post with useful information and pictures! Many of the regular snappers don't get up to NYCC much. so any info from the north country is useful, especially with a popular development like the HC.
