It will be removed as an RR bridge and double or close to it in length for the cycles at haft the cost of building a new one. It will be a reminder of what was here in the past.

The question is, will Ford leave the ramp where they are today, or will he pick up the cost to move them as plan as well when?? The longer the ramps remain where they are, the longer it will take to redevelop the area, if at all.

I love rail transport too but the Harbour Spur line was almost totally unused for many years (and really only saw any traffic at all to/from the City's Ashbridge's Bay sewage plant in recent years) and it is thus hard to see why it should have been retained. Rail traffic on the waterfront has been declining for decades with industries relocating to other parts of Toronto or outside of it and Toronto not being a port anymore. When Redpath moved from RR tank cars to tank trucks, it became the last major player for the RR along with the roofing plant in the east. With Redpath moving from RR to trucks, it solved a major issue for the QQE extension by not having RR tracks in the QQE ROW anymore, but cause an issue how trucks would have an impact on the QQE road redevelopment. That issue has been worked out to a point now until it gets built to see if it works. Will have no effect of the streetcar line or service if it every gets built.

The railway yard east of the Don Roadway was getting smaller over time as well cars been stored there to the point it was mainly empty and in poor shape.

One can say the city took back the land that the RR's took from it back in 1850's when RR's came to town on the waterfront that had no room for them at the time. Its also why in some sense TTC doesn't have standard gauge as there was a fear the RR's would used those tracks for their needs.

Commissioners at the east side (Don Roadway) is, from photos posted here last week, 99% ready to open. From a visit about 5 days ago and other photos posted here the west (Cherry Street) end was a few more days away from 100% completion and that is why WT postponed the opening until January 10-11. It is clearly better to get all of the on-road work done before it all opens and not have construction vehicles still working on an active (opened) road. WT announced that both Cherry and Commissioners will open on January 10 and 11.

See Post 5132 above which reads: "We are all very excited about the road openings and the team is working hard to make sure it happens ASAP. We’re looking at January 10 for Cherry Street and January 11 for Commissioners Street. Not quite before end of year as we’d communicated, but this is because the team is being diligent in making sure the roads are ready to be opened safely."

With regards to the realignment / reconfiguration of the Gardiner Expressway East as mentioned in earlier posts ... ever since they demolished the ramp there have been accidents on an almost daily basis, at exactly the same spot in front of our balcony (eastbound above Cherry St.). It seems vehicles hastily merging left to avoid the ramp closure are succeptible to this (see the poorly constructed barrier in the 3rd photo).
