They're nearing an agreement with the city, and it's rental, so they don't have to wait for sales. Should start excavation by the end of the year.

Sales are hardly a big hurdle. A developer that can finance rental construction can also finance condos without needing those sales in advance.

There are also some positive changes when it comes to heritage. The plan now proposes to preserve all the heritage buildings at the corner of Bathurst and Lennox and the houses on the east side of Markham are to be fully retained and restored in situ, not just the facades (hooray!).

I believe that's an old rendering, as it still has the canopy over Markham, which hasn't been part of the plans for a while. I'm guessing their social media person isn't in the loop.

Yep. Was walking past the former Honest Ed's today. The sidewalk was bustling, even on a cold February Sunday. Lots of people using the bike lanes. This part of Bloor is ready for more density. It's close to transit, and on the edge of downtown. If this is approved at 28 storeys, it wouldn't be out of place.

Plenty of space on the Victoria St. facade. Maybe they should take the opportunity to switch to LED as well (and all the new lighting possibilities it offers)

No doubt it will be entirely rewired and have its fixtures replaced with LEDs. Lights were always burning out on the signs, and putting long-lasting LEDs up there would lessen both their electricity and maintenance bills.
