Residents groups end fight over Neon development after 'fixing a typo'

Construction will start soon on the controversial 20-storey Neon condo at the corner of Duplex and Orchard Avenues, after residents withdrew their objections at an Ontario Municipal Board hearing.
In early August, a collection of residents groups took developer Orchard View Holdings to the Ontario Municipal Board to fight the city-approved building, but withdrew their case on the second day of the hearing.
Area resident Terry Mills told the Town Crier that a settlement had been reached after minor changes were made to the bylaw affecting the development, but did not provide further details.
Soon after the appeal was withdrawn, Mills shut down his website that protested the building.
Residents had voiced concerns about the height and width of building because it blocks available sunlight.
The developer had argued that the building met city criteria and was in an area where other large buildings exist.
The building will be located behind the RioCan centre at Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue.
The changes amounted to fixing a typo, said city lawyer Sarah O’Connor and will have no impact on the height and scale of the building.

This building is most likely going to be the shortest building built at Yonge and Eglinton for its entire future. This area is destined for density. Did the residents just realize this or did they simply think there was NO way they could win a fight over 20 floors when there are so many other buildings in the area taller and a 60 floor condo being proposed right on the corner? Either way, many will be excited to see the Future of Yonge and Eglinton, and a few will still wish it was 1950.

We're still up there, but you know, we don't go north of Eglinton. We look across the great divide from our windows, but that's it. So, there is stuff going on in the North Country?

Such a pity you don't have the ability to be objective. I'm amazed how easy some are to be swayed by slick developers and lazy councillors. I expect more from a site called "urbantoronto". Maybe it should be called, "condosinabubble" or "condo vultures?

A swing and a miss. For someone "wearing" boxing gloves, you might want to connect instead of pulling your punches. What do you mean exactly? One of the writers put up some photos and that's proof they're not objective? …if that's who "you" or "some" is. Urban Toronto is about discussion, and it's my understanding that Urban Toronto is me and you and all of us. It's the place where anyone can participate in the discussion of what's going on in this city and can do so with some actual substance… so why not put some substance in your post instead of just vaguely flailing away? Get your claws out.
BTW, non-editorialized photos seem pretty objective to me, unless of course the photographer angled the camera just enough to the side to avoid seeing the developers rolling in the dirt throwing wads of other people's cash around. What's your point Patrick Smyth?
