What I struggle with is that none of these proposals make the most of the opportunity at hand.

Any work to "revitalize" Ontario Place should create something that should bring tourists in, but also make locals incredibly proud. The counter proposals here are all a bit boring to me. In my opinion, this should be a place that is full of life and activity, but also take you away from the feeling of a "concrete/glass jungle".

I feel like if any other international city is given this opportunity, they would do wonders with it -- Tokyo, Barcelona, etc...

Even the proposals I find don’t have that Wow factor to them, but maybe this is the best shot we have? most of them are still open to public engagement

I 100% agree with you. None of them are world-class, but some of them are still open for feedback if they were to be shortlisted. I feel like Toronto needs a development that screams more culture, and something that would make living in such a sterile place tolerable. Maybe this is our best shot, or maybe the government will surprise us.
 
I really like 104 (On Location) and 137 (Lake Ontario Place). They're both innovative, but also practical enough for those who insist the site needs some sort of revenue source (which shouldn't be the case but I digress). I wasn't totally sold on either of them, but the more people that vote, the more it shows that we want an alternative.

Some of the proposals have a complete lack of any cultural significance, they render the site pretty much useless after the sun goes down. Ontario Place is quite literally the perfect spot for the proper revival of weekly/bi-weekly festivals like Electric Island, something akin to Montreal's Piknic Electronik. You either give it a proper music venue, or you put dining on there, but my guess is people will be less driven to go to a restaurant in Ontario Place vs somewhere like Ossington or Queen W.
 
There's rumours Canada's Wonderland would relocate Dragon Fyre or Time Warp.

It would be great if Ontario Place could purchase one of those roller coasters for cheap.

Ontario Place really needs a roller coaster.

I'd love to see that. It looks like the promoter Promise might be looking to relocate their weekly Cherry Beach parties since their usual spot is now a tent city. Ontario Place would make a lot of sense.

It will be awhile before Mr. Dave and Mr. Irving will be hosting anything currently...maybe next year though.

Most have been decommissioned. The silos are now storage (I remember when they were a maze) and the water slide ride (wilderness something-er-other) has been removed in sections to prevent usage.

I agree though. A few years ago I was on top of one of the Atlantis Pods for the CIAS. There was an abandoned event space on top complete with a disused bar. The pods need structural upkeep given how submerged they are. Water rusts eventually, the pods have been in the water for decades and no doubt they need to be cared for.

I watched North of Superior in the Cinesphere a few years ago during TIFF and then again during Doors Open a couple years ago.
 
From a government press release announcing the appointment of Mark Saunders as OP Special Advisor: "As the Call for Development process continues, Minister MacLeod has confirmed that the vision for Ontario Place will not include casinos or condos, the land will not be sold, and key heritage and recreational features of the site will remain, such as Trillium Park, the William G. Davis Trail, and the Cinesphere and the pods, which will be preserved for future use."
 
"We will be sharing more exciting news this spring. The 50th anniversary of Ontario Place is the perfect time to provide the people of Ontario with a preview of the tremendous plans for the site's future"

They've been saying there's a "spectacular" plan for Ontario Place since at least August of 2018, and have since then kept promising to tell us about it some time in the future.

Let's review what qualifications or areas of knowledge might be valuable in considering the future of Ontario Place:

- Knowledge of architecture
- Knowledge of architectural heritage
- Knowledge of landscape design
- Knowledge about the tourism sector
- Knowledge about community recreation
- Knowledge about natural heritage
- Knowledge about amusement park operation/development


Hmmmmm

So far as I can discern, these are not areas of Mr. Saunders expertise.

Are we contemplating a policing museum?

A high security installation?

Seems a rather odd fit to me.
