It fills me with delight every time I see more of these come down.

No kidding. These buildings look like a low-rise version of a NYC public housing ghetto.

Those corner balconies were so depressing.

I lived in 540 Dundas beside the Macedonian church throughout the 90's in a unit with one of those balconies. (AMA?). Subsidized rent was ~700/mth all-in for a decent sized 2bdroom~800sqft if I recall correctly.

Yeah, the whole experience was like being in a deep dark hole. Those balconies were used more as junk storage and squat housing for pigeons and other pests/vermin rather than proper balconies. Not even talking about all of the shady activity I walked by in the hallways and stairwells. But I can't knock it too much. The whole arrangement, for better or worse, did work out in my favour in the long run.

I have a friend, who amusingly enough, now buys weed from some shady guys (his description, not mine) in the neighbourhood. Full circle. :)

This looks like a re-envisioned apartment building from the '60s.

I noticed that they have made changes to Phase 3/modified the site plan.

The colonnade is a nice gesture along the street front - I quite like that aspect. Looks like it could still use some refining overall but there are some nice details / design language at work here.
