Taking the Martin Grove bus frequently these past few weeks made me realize there's life beyond old Toronto! I wondered what these shockingly urban-looking-for-the-area townhouses were under construction just north of Eglinton and Martin Grove, at Richgrove. Well, hard to believe they'll be red brick, but yeah, this wasteland of an area could do with another 1000 similar developments! Since most of Toronto's land mass is actually taken up by similar crap, it's inspiring to think what these greenfield sites could do to improving the rest of the city!

Here's a shot I took 30 April 2010 (aka yesterday morning) from the 46 Martin Grove bus--yeah buses rock! :p

There's an application in for 2 more condo/rental? slabs south of the current two apartment buildings. I saw some site clearing a week ago, so perhaps construction is set to begin?

(Apologies to image size, something happened and I gotta figure it out.:(

Wow, I live quite close to this area, yet I had absolutely no idea this was being built. I try not to venture north of Eglinton on Martin Grove because, as UD said, it's a soul sucking suburban wasteland, and has a bad reputation to boot. Ugly too.

Those Richgrove apartments behind them had a nice 60s brick-and-concrete treatment that was stuccoed away a couple of years ago...

They were in terrible shape though, so something had to be done. I always hated them, whether brick or stucco - the tower in a park design makes me cringe with frustration, so it's nice to see that some of that empty space will be filled up with a couple more towers closer (but still not close enough) to the Eglinton-Martin Grove intersection. With any luck, it'll look and feel more urban.

RichGrove is starting to shape up !!

Just thought I would add and updated picture.

Thanks for that Kidraven (and welcome to UT). The above is not a form of building we see too often in this city - not being built these days anyway... I may have to head over there to investigate further... (but keep the photos coming!)

Damn, they took a promising building and ruined it with that stone-look base. Why can't they knock off buildings like those found around Humbertown Plaza? (I was in the area yesterday for the first time and really like it, the c.1950s? lowrise walkups, etc. The shopping mall is kinda cool too.)

Re the Humbertown-zone apartments: does *anyone* build *anything* in that kind of common, ordinary 50s-style red or white brick anymore?

RichGrove

Does anyone know what they are building on the other side of the old appartment building I see they have start digging but I have found nothing posted on the web.

Richgrove

I saw the signs, I was hoping for a little more detail, that file has not been updated since 2008 when it was proposed. Just thought someone would have some insite.
