I think they should put one escalator going up in the lower wing where the pet store is. There is stairs there right now. And one escalator going down where The Bay is.

The food court can only be push back to where the church was, as there is the delivery tunnel north of it.

They have removed the water creek in the food court and filling it in as a floor slab. Not surprised, as it will offer more seating area.

The stair by Walmart is being strip with RBC ATM machines been moved to the movie theater area. Going out on the limb here, escalators could becoming to this area as the hording is back far enough for one. There is hording up down by the Bay where someone said an escalator should go.

The escalators by Target are schedule to be in service by the end of March once they finish rebuilding the skylight area. The hoist support is in place and waiting the arrival of the escalators.

Various parts of the skylight system has been rebuilt and waiting final work.

The washroom over by the HM is close for repairs.

More stores are playing the musical chair and being removed from the mall or relocated. See the retail section for more info.

All the stair are basic gone in the mall area and are being replace by escalators.

Escalators will be by Walmart as well The Bay, with the pit being built now. The floor are at top level has been cut for it.

The escalators by Target should be up and running by next week.

The elevator for the centre court has been decommission and will be moved somewhere west of the court that will require the removal of 2 stores.

All the store on the north side of the lower level expansion will be gone by June with the closing of the escalators.

There was an article in the Mississauga News yesterday (which unfortunately I cannot find online) that the current plans are just the beginning of a decade long expansion. They were quoting some executive from Oxford, so the info is pretty legit.

I'm not sure if they consider the expansion between Target and Sears to be part of the current or future expansions, but it'd be interesting to find out what else is planned. I imagine some of the expansion to the south for the Main Steet thing is part of it.

Its not part of the future expansion.

Expect the theater area and to the south of it as part of the future expansion.

I PDF'd it and was able to grab the text

Square One begins decade of expansion to regain top ranking

Square One Shopping Centre is about to begin a series of improvements similar to those almost completed at Yorkdale after a decade of expansion, said Michael Kitt, executive vice-president Canada of Oxford Properties Group, which owns both malls.
Square One slipped from the top five shopping centres in Canada last year as two new shopping centres in Edmonton and Montreal surpassed its almost 1.8-million square feet of gross leasable space, according to data from the International Council of Shopping Centres.
“With a property like Square One you have to take a long-term view,” said Kitt, who was in Mississauga this week visiting Square One and looking at the new Target Canada outlet there that’s scheduled to open next Monday. “The long-term prospects and demographics are so strong in this area, we expect it to be in a positive position for decades to come.”
Last month Square One announced a modest $84-million renovation to its existing space including the creation of a premium food court with unique food vendors and reusable tableware.
That was a relatively modest capital expenditure compared with the last in a series of recent investments at Yorkdale of $220 million and a $350-million upgrade at Cadillac Fairview’s Sherway Gardens to be completed by 2016.
That will be the beginning of a series of enhancements and expansions that will be announced in the coming years for Square One, said Kitt.
Kitt is the Oxford executive with whom Mayor Hazel McCallion and her son, Peter McCallion, met to discuss the purchase of land from the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System for a hotel and convention centre. He was called to appear at the Mississauga judicial inquiry into whether Mayor McCallion had violated conflict of interest guidelines.
Square One’s productivity, a key industry benchmark indicator that measures sales per square foot of leasable space, of $775 is well below the top productivity rate in North America of $1,580 at Pacific Centre in Vancouver. It’s also below the $1,300-a-square foot productivity at Toronto Eaton Centre and Yorkdale, according to 2012 data from KPMG reported by the Retail Insider blog.
Nine of the top 15 shopping centres with the highest productivity rates in North America were in Canada last year, KPMG reported.
Kitt pointed out that Square One is larger in absolute square feet of leaseable space than many other high-sales shopping centres.
“Retailers in Square One like that they can get lease large stores that also have high sales per square foot,” Kitt said, adding Target expects its store there “to be one of its very best stores in Canada.”
Square One receives 20 million visitors a year.

I wonder how Crate and Barrel and Whole Foods are performing compared to similar locations. Surprised to hear sales per square foot is so low. It makes sense now why they recently extended their open hours on the weekends.

The truth is Oxford dropped the ball with Square One. It sits in the middle of a city of 800,000 just west of the largest city in Canada and there has been nothing new done with this mall since the added some theaters ten years ago. The mall is extremely well located and surrounded by a fast growing city and yet the mall sits idle while other Centres are built or expanded. Oxford did nothing as thy watched Heartland - one of the largest "Power Centres" in Canada - build piece by piece. I have to assume they were dealing with other priorities but there is no reason for this mall to slip from second to fifth except lack of attention from the mall owners. There has been talk for decades about what they are planning to do or could do but nothing has happened except the addition of the theatre wing.

Very poor management is the culprit IMO.

Oxford hasn't had Square One for that long. They only bought it from Hammerson like what, 10-15 years ago?

Although I agree it could be doing a lot better. There's a ton of stores that it doesn't have yet:

Hollister
Abercrombie
Forever XXI
Joe Fresh
Lego
Microsoft
Pottery Barn

These stores aren’t here because they don’t see it as a crucial location and Oxford has done nothing to accommodate new retail.

If I didn’t know any better, and I don’t, I would almost think Oxford is simply prepping the mall for sale. (create some cash for a major Casino project?)

Clearly this mall is not a priority for them in terms of assets.

Did you not read the article at all? They clearly have plans over the next decade to improve it.

Furthermore, Square One is hampered by the City's restriction on them expanding. I think they made some kind of deal though allowing Heartland to expand so now they're able to as well. I could be remembering wrong though.

I highly doubt Oxford is selling one of their top malls. What's next, selling Scarborough Town Centre? I just don't see it happening.

I know the city wasn't in favour of the "box type" stores around Square One. I believe they put a stop to it after Crate and Barrel was built and are re-examining their policy. I can hardly wait to see what they planned after this initial set of renovations. I did a lease renewal with SQ1 7 years ago. To my surprise they were very accommodating, unlike Scarborough Town Centre was at that time.
