Why all the hate? The stacked box design is distinctive. The coloured glass tops look great when lit up. The way it meets the street is somewhat anonymous at present, but the storefronts look like they'll be more engaging to walk by than the monotonous expanses of glass that are common along condo podiums at street level. This complex has character, even though it doesn't compare favourably with recent projects in the vicinity like Shangri-La and Theatre Park.

It could have been distinctive if the execution of the massing and finishes weren't garbage. The minor insets don't suit the slab form. The only upside is that there isn't a ton of spandrel glass on the towers but it's lost in those needless, wavy balconies.

Not quite the best picture quality, but both towers' mechanical penthouses are lit. For the longest time only one of them was lit during the night.

I really like these buildings for being distinctive.

On another note, I hope that parking lot visible in Friendlyfuture's photos can be acquired to become a new park/square for the area. I know that Joe Cressy has talked about getting it.

Here's how Studio looked yesterday, first down Nelson:

The gallery has opened with a show called 'Raise a Flag - works from the Indigeous Art Collection (2000-2015)'. It's on until December 10. There are some great pieces in it, totally worth a visit.
