Speaking of this development, I just found out what's being done for the parkland dedication here........
There's a small green space (~2/3 of an acre) in behind the Leaside Memorial Pool. It's been open to the public for years, but not officially a park per se; and you would never know it was there, unless you knew.
Well, the City worked it out w/the builders here to buy property on Southvale, the nearest road, giving this space greater visibility and access, and it will now, officially, become a public park.
The acquired property is 21 Southvale: The space, inclusive, is pictured below (aerial pic)
Albeit rather expensive, a smattering more properties (3-8) will need to be acquired along Southvale to give this space a more functional footprint.
But the biggest investment will require some serious $ from the City by committing to rebuild, and consolidate, the arena, pool and curling club closer to Laird with any parking shifting underground.
Below is what I would envision as a logical buildout:
I've measured and the residual space should be able to serve all the existing recreational buildings, and retain comparable parking underground.
