I still don't think an Apple location here will be the Toronto flagship store until confirmed otherwise.

But none of this changes how pitiful the Eaton Centre location is. Surely a city of Toronto's size and growing presence in the tech world can allow for two or more Apple locations downtown? I would say that Apple is likely not done growing its presence in this city. In addition to replacing the Eatons store, there are obvious areas to expand into (Yonge&Eglinton, STC, and I am sure one more in the east end somewhere, perhaps at East Harbour if it turns out well?).

1) Flagship, Town Square or otherwise, this will be one good looking Apple store. And I really like that it will be distinctly unique to Toronto...
2) Two locations downtown is just right, any more could be over supply. Y&E might be justified in the future, but even I wouldn’t bet on that. Outside of Toronto, perhaps Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill.
..

@MetroMan , surprising that Yorkdale will still end up being larger. It’s massive, but has an over abundance of space, since the entire store has rows on rows (and more rows) of product tables. I’ve also never seen what’s behind that rear wall, so perhaps it’s even bigger than it already looks.

What does that do to the viability of the lower level as a retail "mall" - connected to PATH?

Yeah, it’s not much of a “PATH mall”. Whether or not Apple takes that lower level, the majority of the the PATH level is dedicated to back of house for retail. Given how little retail is left, I’d imagine that the major retail space on the main floor will end up using this space.

No, Yorkdale will be smaller. It’s 9800 sq/ft. The floor space at The One is 8900 sq/ft but also has a 3 story high ceiling which the blueprints show Apple using to build a cantilevered balcony. That’ll add at least 1000 sq/ft, conservatively. Probably closer to 2000 sq/ft. It could easily be an additional 4000 sq/ft if they take advantage of most of the floor space and height to build a second floor out of that balcony.

Apple Orchard Road in Singapore is probably the closest model of what the base of The One will look like, minus the columns. It’s about the same height and is built at the base of a tower.

Not sure where you are seeing that on the drawings

The Apple Store itself and its features won’t be included in the building’s blueprints but allowances for those features are described in the bare retail space. A large space outside of the retail boundaries on the south wall between columns and between beams on the second level has been reserved for “Apple riser”. This is how a cantilevered balcony would be built.

And when I say “3 story high ceiling” I mean it to describe height, not necessarily the number of levels in the building. The podium’s ceilings are the height of a 3 story building as you can see from the heritage building next to it. But in practice, the Apple Store would be 2 levels: ground and balcony.

There's an Apple Store thread in the Retail section where anything general about Apple stores should be. Please keep this one to specifics about this site…

regarding which, until there is something new, the information has pretty much been exhausted for the time being. Time to wind this down?

Honestly this building is so much more than the stupid Apple store. This thread has become reddit for Apple fanboys. Would it be possible to move all Apple related discussion to a different thread? I'm sure a lot of us are opening this thread in anticipation of some actual updates.

["Time to wind this down?"]

Thank you!! :D

THANK YOU!

I personally am not all that interested in whether Apple, or some other retailer, opens at the base of this building. But am perplexed as to why people are annoyed by the discussion of the Apple store, or find it tiresome (mind you, 42's comment about not rehashing the same information is a very fair one). It's clearly on topic, and people have made some really interesting comments about both the retail space and the base of the building. What would we have been doing instead at this stage in the development? Obsessing about the daily count of cement trucks on the site? If you're tired of comments about the large retail space at the base this building, you can always skip past them.

What I am tired about is the seemingly endless speculation about size and layout based on the words "Apple risers to Apple ceiling". That only tells us a little, and this type of detail, especially for interiors, can change repeatedly until just a few weeks before opening. It makes more sense to take the speculative conversation to the Retail Forum thread for Apple where those who want to glory in the minutiae can bathe in the Ive-y-Ahrendts-yness of it all. This thread is better suited to covering the facts of the building. Once we get concrete details of The One's retail, by all means, everyone should pile in here again!
