I don’t think it will be as bad (for the land owners) as it seems. The extension will not run parallel to Burnhamthorpe but more south westerly and thus only the east part of the lot will be effected. You see this if you draw a line in Google maps from the current east end of Webb Dr to the west end of Enfield Pl.

Your layout is very close to what is taking place now. They have removed more of the south-west corner of the lot that is more toward the north-east corner of the school yard leaving space for a wide sidewalk with green space between the sidewalk and the school from what I shot today.

That extension is long over due and will offer better access to the school and the street based on the pools of water that is there along with mud ponds that existed today as well the past few decades. There used to be access to the school on the west side, but was closed years ago leaving access only on the east side.

i expect the remaining land on the southside of the new road will become part of the existing park as part of section 37 requirement.

Frankly, Toronto is extremely boring, blinkered and provincial next to real "world class cities." So it's silly, unnecessarily divisive and a false dichotomy to set up Toronto and Mississauga in opposition.

Then tell me how I'm wrong.
Many people had replied to your post (and I won't be repeating what they said) but looks like all those were deleted. It's strange that trolling is allowed but replying to trolling is not.

What's interesting for you could be boring for someone else. I can't see myself living in downtown with shoebox size condos, aggressive homeless people, drug addicts, smell of piss at every corner (even at the entrance to Union), barely any space to walk, lack of greenery, worst traffic congestion. The list can go on. In suburbs, there are other problems but I'd rather deal with those than deal with downtown's problems.

90% of GTA's population lives in suburbs like Mississauga. They don't find it boring. You are in the minority.

Well enlightened or not, I can say I disagree...as I think London, Ont. fits that bill. As had lived there in the anecdote, I can confidently say, Mississauga is a 100 kilometres and a mile ahead here...

...I can also say, Mississauga does have some interesting elements, but not all of that is in a good way. And for what that's worth.

Figured I’d post a pic now that they put up the signals (still covered up).

Interesting to note there aren’t any facing traffic coming from the expected Webb Dr extension. So I guess they don’t expect that to be built any time soon.

It does really seem close to Burnhamthorpe.

It is close. But it’s the natural grid so what can we do.

I know this isn’t really the right thread but putting it here due to lack of a better place.

So the lights are now active.

First thoughts are that they change in Enfield’s favor extemely quickly. As I was walking they changed to red for Kariya like 3 times as I was approaching. Seemed unnecessary and they stayed red seemingly longer than necessary.

Secondly it appears they have removed the pedestrian crossing further down. But without removing the recently installed curbs / metal things.

Yeah that was my experience too. I’m guessing they won’t stay this way and they will be altered a bit. I’m never going to understand why kariya didn’t make it all the way to central parkway when they were building the school. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Pro tip: just use the parking lot at Elm Drive PS to get to Central Parkway.

But yeah they should have just extended Kariya, just like they should extend Webb. If/when they extend Webb Drive to Kariya/Enfield, they'll have to either change the street sign to add Webb or do the Toronto method of having one sign on each side to show which side is which street.

And yeah Enfield is such a minor street, it makes no sense why it gets such extreme priority. If it was a quick change, that might make more sense, but it stays green for Enfield longer than I'd expect for such a minor street.

My wife thought on the first day the lights were super short for Enfield. The complete reverse of what you and I experienced. So maybe they are trying to figure this out.

Yes I can go through elm school to get to central parkway. But most people won’t do that. Kariya getting to central parkway would lower a lot of traffic on Joan drive and give people more a direct route. Almost exclusively people going south on Joan drive towards central parkway turn right at the lights. Very few cars are going across to Fairview. And the left hand turns are mainly people who live on Joan trying to leave their houses. Anyways maybe when wallys gets developed and the semis behind it get ripped down.

Did my first drive through these lights. They are 100% not fixed. The green for Kariya can last as little as 10-20 seconds. I was stuck behind a few cars that were at the light, and cars had barely started going through the light before the countdown started. To me it's really unintuitive why the minor street has (1) higher priority and (2) a longer light and (3) activates in its favour so much quicker.

Now I have seen other examples of really bad timing in Mississauga (e.g. Matheson and McLaughlin--Matheson gets huge priority over McLaughlin and it lasts foreeeeeever). You'd think a car-oriented place like Mississauga would have an idea how to program traffic lights, but I can confidently say that Mississauga sucks at it. Even though Toronto has way too many extraneous lights, at least they're programmed more intelligently and aren't overly long unnecessarily.

Yeah they haven’t been changed. My parents from ottawa complain about the lights all the time in Mississauga. Maybe I got used to them.

They did put that weighing strip down on Enfield. Maybe the real problem is one car can trigger it. In order for Kariya to move better I think that’s a low bar. That being said how is the Webb extension coming. There’s a lot of dirt moves around. Is this fairly imminent. If so maybe they’ll have to figure these lights out then.

It's more like 60 percent, and often because they have limited options. And I'd rather be able to walk to get groceries, coffee, etc., rather than drive a car.

I live in the suburbs in a sfh near this development and walk to get my coffee, restaurants, shopping, church, my kids school. I don’t drive everywhere and don’t find it boring.

Technically I could walk for groceries but I do prefer to drive for that. I also choose to live here when technically we could live almost anywhere. Less square footage but still more or less anywhere (previously lived walking distance to union station. And then near Forest Hill) But maybe I’m just boring.
