Probably for the same reason people do not mention "711" on telephones. There is a trick wherein Payphones can be rendered inoperable by dialling 711. It tries to connect to the relay service, senses it cannot do so, assumes a problem and shuts down.

No doubt "111" works on presto machines but imagine what would happen if it is was public knowledge? It would cause more problems than it solves.

I'm not sure what problems it could cause. The terminal was frozen. When he pressed the keys it simply unfroze and reset back to the main menu. I'm not certain, but I think all that command does is terminate all running tasks and return to the system back to the main menu.

Not for Bell pay phones, at least back in the day when I still used my Ultratec Compact TTY. (I'm deaf...)
A 711 phone call is free from pay phones, and works with acoustic couplers.

Maybe this has changed....as TTYs became more legacy in the era of smartphones, and CRTC mandated online relay services (thank god....10 years after America). 711 still works from Bell landlines, at least.

Some pay phones elsewhere in North Amercia did not do 711 properly, that I found out during travels.

followed by overhead LED displays at the teamway right in front of staircase that indicates line, express and minutes from departure.

Another solution is to display screens above each platform entrance, which also displays which train they are (e.g. "Lakeshore West"). Like the screens in Platforms 25-27, albiet perhaps landscape orientation rather than portrait orientation. This will provide quicker routes for commuters to get out of the way.

These are excellent ideas and make perfect sense. I'm surprised GO doesn't already have their system set up like this in the teamways.

even if I stand beside a bike racks,
OMG don't get me started on bike racks. WHY ARE THERE BIKE RACKS IN THE TEAMWAY?! Completely inappropriate!

I guess none of us will be truly happy until the new Bay Concourse finally re-opens, lol.
That cramped Bay Teamway is basically serving as the entire Bay Concourse at present.

They were trying to relocate the bike racks, but I think they've kept them there for now. There are brand new bike lockers at Union coming (if not already open), so I presume the bike racks won't be there permanently.

They couldn't even foresee the likelihood of problems and do something to mitigate it before it occur (e.g. The ongoing teamway gong show). It's a reactive organization.

How current are those pictures? If they are recent they we are making quick work in the Bay Concourse. Maybe someone else on here has more information but it looks to be going faster than the York Concourse did.

They are very current. I would wager they were taken today. ;)

EDIT: In case anybody is wondering, the columns in @union2pearson 's pics are located in the former Blue Route area.

The area below the Blue Route was already partially excavated. Anyone who walked the route over the last couple of years before it closed will remember the arced ramp up and down. That was a bridge over the excavated area, providing access from the excavated area under the York Concourse to the excavated area south of the Bay Concourse. The area that you see with concrete floor in the images above was from the earlier dig phase.

As I've said before, the area left to be dug at Union is much smaller than what has already been done.

Not exactly... the columns were only done directly around the ramp (3 on each side). The ramp was built so that the service area could be excavated to the East of the Blue Route during the "York Phase" without closing the Blue Route itself. The *hand sketched* map shows what was excavated in the York Phase. I hope these pictures provide clarification.

EDIT: Sorry 42, when I say "not exactly" I am not considering the area under the VIA concourse. If you include that as part of the York Phase, you are 100% correct. The Bay Phase represents less than 1/3 of remaining columns to be underpinned.

EDIT 2: Interesting tidbit. On the three underpinned columns beside the ramp, near the orange paint about halfway is the rebar for the future floor slab.

EDIT 3: In total clarity, the area to the east of the Blue Route Ramp also had the columns underpinned and new slabs poured as part of the York Phase.

(York Phase Excavation - Area in Orange circles is operational and turned over to City of Toronto staff. This includes loading docks, waste disposal/janitorial, etc.)

@union2pearson Did you happen to get a chance to look south from your vantage point in the photos you posted? I am wondering if they have also snipped the remaining column(s) south of where the ramp used to be?

Yes, @tnarduzzi, I had meant to mention the VIA Concourse dig as well, and forgot!

Anyway, great pics, and great info. Thanks!

You saw it here first. Blue Route 2.0 looks like it is in the making. I predict that in order to begin work on the new connection to Telus House: the first area of the Bay Concourse to open will be directly north of the doors to the ACC. This will likely provide direct connection to the west (VIA/shiny-brand-new-hallway just south of VIA) while maintaining the access to the east (Bay South Concourse/Bay West Teamway).
