I would imagine they get some money from it....and in the case of LV might attract people to Union who otherwise might never see a public transit station.

Then do it inside. I am not sure why a public plaza should be stuck with this pod thing providing very little benefit to anyone else other than the head leasee - whose lease doesn't even include the plaza.

I am not defending or supporting it....was just answering the rather obvious question "what do they get for this?".
 
I like the parapet wall. It is part of the original structure therefore integral to the historic feel. It has girth to it and anyone who climbs over it and down to the glass area will certainly be removed/arrested/taken away quickly and that should be the appropriate response.

Well, the work has been going on for several months so I suppose the "work started on York Street moat" post is true. They were doing lots of underground work on both east and west moats since last fall and have recently started installing the re-bar for the flooring and pouring the concrete base for it. They are doing the same thing in Bay Moat too.
 
From this afternoon, lots of little updates.

Part 1, from the Air Canada Centre (oops!) doors to the VIA Concourse, then into the Great Hall, then off towards the Ontario travel centre:

Half the doors are closed as the new, permanent route is being prepared for opening.

Looking mostly done. Better, if not exactly gorgeous. A slight increase in ceiling height, antique trims being refinished.

The doors and ramp from MLS has been like that for weeks. I doubt the new corridor will be opening soon.

The doorways under the bridge are going to be low. Frank Lloyd Wright liked to bring people through compressed spaces and the present them with something soaring. It'll be interesting to see how that works here!

That was an amazing update. Thanks a lot. Union isn't getting enough photo love on here lately. The construction is incredible, but I'm also getting more and more eager for it to be all cleaned up. It's just been so long. But it's obviously an amazingly complicated project.

IMO, the complicated project argument was legit up until a couple of years ago. After that, you have to ask: aren’t all projects kind of complicated? Maybe they just require people that can handle complicated? I don’t know if it’s resources, money, technology, but something is wrong with this project. I can usually count the number of construction workers I see daily on one hand. Of those workers, at least one if not all are doing absolutely nothing. Still, it brings me comfort to know that it’s still a live construction site.

Originally, when the project was approved in 2009, it was to be completed in 2015! Now we are looking at a mid-late 2019 figure.. and every month that goes by seems to add another month to the schedule.

And now with RER, as soon as the City of Toronto's work finishes up, Metrolinx is just going to keep on going with all their platform work and their new south platform.
