Walked by the site this afternoon. The final of the four freestanding buildings to be demolished, which was the Milestones restaurant to the East side of the site, has now closed. Fixtures were also being removed and loaded into a truck.

There is nothing going on here yet. All of the restaurants have closed now, the Milestones having been the last milestone in that regard. Signs have come down, and maybe interiors are being cleared… …but that's it so far.

I saw the fencing on the ground when I drove by on Saturday so that must have just gone up within the last two days. I'll try and swing by soon for some aerial shots.
 
They are making quick work here. The building to the extreme west end of the site (former Scotiabank branch) is already 50% demolished.

It doesn't take much to knock down a few cheap big-box single-storey shacks. Good riddance finally.
 


New Park at 1001-1037 The Queensway


A new 1849.8m2 park is coming to 1001-1037 The Queensway Opens in new window as part of a mixed-use development project near Islington Avenue and The Queensway, in the Islington-City Centre West neighbourhood. The park design will be developed with the help of community and stakeholder feedback in order to meet the needs of the growing community.

Project Timeline

  • April 2022: Hire a design team
  • Summer 2022: Community engagement
  • 2023 to 2024: Design development and detailed design
  • Spring 2025: Hire a construction team
  • Fall 2025: Construction starts
  • Summer 2026: Construction complete
The timeline is subject to change.
