If in fact the above renderings represent what is being proposed it is a shame that they will be obscured from the waterfront by the unimaginative box designed by Diamond & Schmitt. This is what should have been built on the waters edge.

Wow, that design is pretty awesome!

Yes it's and even though it's a rendering, I would not expect anything like that to actually materialize in Toronto, simply because it's too bold and not boxy enough for this developing city.

If such a design did go ahead there's a risk that the cladding will be of poor quality and most likely be grey. Furthermore, a design like this would only happen in a location such as this - behind the Corus building so it's not visible from the water as only that would comply with Toronto's overall look of grey boxy mediocrity.

Have a grey weekend!

One day someone is going to write a book about Toronto and title it "Toronto, the original 50 shades of grey". (and the West Don Lands will be the cover shot)

The glass on these reminds me of what was originally proposed for the back end of the L Tower. Look at what we got in reality.

From October 30 CEO Report:

"Waterfront Toronto issued a Request for Qualifications on October 21, 2013 seeking a developer for the Waterfront Innovation Centre (a physical hub of academics, innovators and entrepreneurs in fields as diverse as digital media, advanced visualization, healthcare and clean technology) on Blocks 1 and 2 in Dockside. The Innovation Centre will serve as the focal point of the larger Intelligent Community initiative and Waterfront Toronto is drafting a press release to highlight the Innovation Centre's effective introduction to stakeholders in the real estate, development, planning, architecture, urban design and related fields. The release will also work to further define the workings and benefits of the Intelligent Community and the role it plays in Waterfront's larger economic development approach. This is part of a larger communications strategy to profile the Intelligent Community and New Blue Edge concept and to ensure support, endorsement and profile from stakeholders.
A proponent's information meeting will be held November 4, 2013 and submissions are due to Waterfront Toronto on December 2, 2013. Once a short list of proponents is selected, a Request for Proposals will be issued to that list early in 2014."

From the Globe and mail interview with Cisco Systems executives regarding their R & D hub investment in Ontario:

"We're expanding our footprint in downtown Toronto... We're going to have 108,000 square feet, four floors and an innovation centre on Queen's Quay, with some expansion capabilities."

Are these two projects related? If so we now know who the lead tenant will be, Cisco. Maybe Taal can verify.

No ! They signed at the new RBC waterpark place ... which is indeed on Queens Quay ; - )

they must be taking the base levels of WPP3, 100k square feet over 4 floors is too large for the tower portion.

Yeah but in the interview he says "We're going to have 108,000 square feet, four floors and an innovation centre "

It could be that the 108K square feet is at RBC Waterpark and they will also be involved in this innovation centre. Or I may just be reading too much into his reply.

Quote: There is 6M SF of new office supply flooding the downtown market in coming years, so John, a former Brookfield Properties exec, says Waterfront Toronto can't simply build a bunch of generic office space: "This has to be different."
