There used to be tons of places right in the downtown where you'd never know you were in the heart of a 6 million+ metro. That photo above being a good case in point.

Not that it’s a surprise... but it’s still so frustrating to see how compromised this new park will be by the Bay Club condo’s private roundabout. Both branches of the roundabout are actually quite wide and perfectly capable on their own of permitting access to their garage.
Sadly, with a road splitting this space in two, it’ll provide a few new trees, but really won’t function as much of a park. The green space, nevertheless, will impact upon property owners to the south (ie their ability to build due to the City’s incremental shadowing concerns).
Not sure why we treat the property rights of the Bay Club (and their condo board’s inane concerns about having TWO private roads to access their parking garage) with kid gloves but then aggressively enforce shadowing restrictions to the detriment of property rights to owners to the south (and their ability to deliver new housing).
Would this not have been a prime candidate for the use of expropriation powers? What’s the fair market value of an undevelopable sliver of land that’s totally redundant to a property’s vehicle entry/exit requirements? You’d think it would be modest or negligible. Any reason expropriation powers couldn’t be invoked to fix this park in the future? I imagine the community may take more interest in this when they see how compromised this much vaunted new downtown park really is.

Today. Work ongoing on the park. Looks like some rocks (granites?) will be part of the landscaping.
