For several years now I've done a consolidated Toronto Budget thread which I usually post to the Toronto Issues section.

I notice, despite it covering a range of projects of keen interest to many here, it seems to get very little attention.

I assume that's either because its in a less viewed thread, or people mistake the title for being all accounting instead of updates on projects of interest.

In any event, I'm going to do this differently this year.

Instead of big massive budget blurb, I will insert info into particular project threads, or as with this thread here, combine project news of one type in one place.

The long preamble dispensed with, here we go:

What follows is a list of 'unfunded' projects for transportation services in their capital plan.

This would be the department that handles Roads, Sidewalks and Bike lanes, but not TTC.

Unfunded means the requisite funds are NOT included in the recommended 10-year capital budget.

Of note here:

No funding to pursue the big overhaul of downtown Yonge Street.

Also missing are funds the new street in Liberty Village and the proposed re-do of the Progress-McCowan intersection.

As well no money for the 401/Yonge overhaul or the Reimagine Yonge in downtown North York.

Also note that John Street is deferred again (by 1 year)

Finally the unfunded Major road rehab budget is staggering.

What new street in Liberty Village?

Eglinton Connects is another major absence.

Eglinton Connects is going to have to be figured out very soon - Metrolinx is rebuilding the parts above the new stations to the Eglinton Connects standards - the street will otherwise end up in a patchwork of rebuilt and unrebuilt parts if the money can't be found in the next year or so.

Progress-McCowan is still 7-8 years off until it needs to have funding, it can wait.

My understanding is that Downtown Yonge is mostly going to be paid for with Section 37 funds.. Could be wrong on that one though. At least part of it has section 37 directed at it I believe.

My understanding of the Liberty Village New Street is that the part from Pirandello St. to Strachan Avenue will be constructed as a part of the private development on the corner of East Liberty and Strachan - hopefully some cash can be secured for the rest soon.

401/Yonge overhaul will mostly be funded by the MTO I imagine.

John Street's construction has be almost ridiculously delayed to the point of absurdity. The project was approved in what, 2010?

It's odd to see Peel-Gladstone as unfunded - I could have sworn that was paid for by section 37 from The Carnaby Condos next door.

All of these have been delayed and unfunded over the years. It's the Toronto way of consturction...
