Thanks for latest pics. As for it being not earthquake proof, maybe. They could have easily spent less improving the overall buildings strength vs demolishing it floor by floor, possibly even added another tower. Which its still not complete, so they are behind? Goes to show not economical and not good for the environment with the amount of CO2 (from running equipment) + dust. That does pose a good question, what about several other high rises build around the same time..
 
I believe the new ownership didn't want to keep the hotel because its old and would cost quite a bit to strengthen the building structure and renovate the exterior and interior to become condo.
