Some photos of the celebrations on King Street West after France defeated Portugal in the semi-finals of the World Cup (thanks to Zidane's penalty shot). Those French fans sure know how to party- stopping rush hour traffic on King Street, rocking and banging on every passing streetcar, and screaming their hearts out at any TV news camera.

No, I don't think many of them actually live in the King-John area (same can be said for pretty much any team's supporters). There are quite a few people originally from France living in Toronto, plus any international city has a fair share of expats working temporarily. When I was in Jamaica, the Canadian community was the same.

Lastly, there's always the crowd that just jumps on the bandwagon.

People from former French colonies sometimes support France too... some of the folks in those pics look like they may be of that ilk.
