In the course of our daily reporting, we often uncover unusual projects, places, or connections that don't make the final cut. Instead of keeping it to ourselves, we're pleased to share our weekly Architrivia.
In a recent edition of Architrivia, we looked at the abandoned plans for Winnipeg's unbuilt subway system, but today's edition goes one step further. According to Atlas Obscura, Cincinnati built over two miles of empty subway tunnels before abandoning their plans, making it the largest such stalled infrastructure project in the world. The tunnels offer unused tracks and even station platforms, as well as active electrical wiring and water mains. In sheer scope, the network is a step beyond the individual secret stations found on subway lines from Brooklyn to Moscow.
