Known for his striking designs which often feature abundant foliage, Moshe Safdie can add another high-density complex to his notable resume. Situated north of his futuristic three-tower Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore, two staggered block buildings are connected with several sky bridges in a 509-unit residential development. Dubbed Sky Habitat, indicative of its height and use, the project is now officially complete.

The lower two sky bridges provide a circulation link between the buildings, which are nearly identical in massing and scale, but are rotated to mirror each other. The uppermost bridge is a trademark Safdie amenity: a rooftop swimming pool supplying magnificent views of the residential area Bishan. The aerial pool sits 38 storeys above a larger one at ground level. Many units are equipped with large balconies and terraces, owing to the stepped form of the development. Communal gardens at ground level provide an additional natural boost to the project.

For residents looking to be sociable, the complex offers a diversity of amenities. A karaoke room, party room, games lounge, fitness area, and screening room aim to keep inhabitants entertained. Though it's not centrally located in Singapore's bustling core, there are still plenty of neighbourhood services available. A nearby mall, Junction 8, supplies the area with boutique, independent and brand-name retail options. Located two kilometres from Sky Habitat, Bishan Park's tranquil natural setting, pierced by the Kallang River, is a popular oasis getaway.

Developed by CapitaLand LimitedShimizu Corporation and Mitsubishi Estate, the integration between housing and nature mimics the rolling hillsides of the city. The development was inspired by Habitat 67's cubist shapes and visionary density, which have become a Montreal landmark. Sure to be Safdie's next global wonder, Chongqing Chaotiamen's multi-tower configuration utilizes many the same elements: an expansive amenity-filled sky bridge connects four soaring skyscrapers in an effort to harmonize the environment with high-density development. Located on a triangular site where the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers intersect, the massive project — now undergoing excavation — will act as a mammoth gateway to the city.
