With Met Square's first few floors beginning to make an impact on the streetscape, MDM Development Group is closing in on completion of their Metropolitan Miami project. The fourth and final phase of the transformative development is a 43-storey tower with supplementary retail, restaurants, and an 18-screen Silverspot Cinema.
The building's primary usage will be residential, adding 392 residences to Miami's housing stock. In homage to Tequesta Native American settlements, Met Square will contain an educational gallery space. The museum will also pay tribute to the Royal Palm Hotel, a large resort built by railroad magnate Henry Flagler that once occupied the site. Brick piers from the old structure will be on public display inside.
Atop the bulky commercial component that forms the base of the building, a rooftop pool and deck replete with palm trees and seating areas takes centre stage. The tower features a design by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates with balconies occupying most of the facade. Spacious balconies are usually a key component of Miami condominium design, allowing residents to enjoy Florida's tropical weather and ocean setting.
The 40-floor Met One was the first tower to be completed in the Metropolitan Miami project, followed by a slew of mixed-use spaces when the JW Marriott Marquis Miami, Hotel Beaux Arts Miami, db Bistro Moderne and Wells Fargo Tower all came online as part of the second phase. Monarc at Met 3 and its Whole Foods grocery store have recently finished construction, leaving Met Square as the only remaining piece of the complex, which should be delivered in 2017.
