Progress has been moving along nicely at the site of Parq Vancouver, the 800,000-square-foot casino, hotel, and spa that is currently rising adjacent to BC Place in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Since our last update, the structure has risen substantially above ground level, making the size and scope of the new development clearly visible in context with the adjacent BC Place.

Set to rise 25 storeys, the complex will include three towers, all of which will be connected via a multi-storey podium and base, with a structure that hugs the curve of the adjacent BC Place stadium.

Wedged between BC Place and One Pacific, a recently built condo development, Parq Vancouver is a testament to the land squeeze that has long been a factor in Vancouver's dense downtown.

Parq Holdings Limited Partnership — a joint venture between Paragon DevelopmentDundee Corporation and PBC VUR Limited Partnership — is responsible for the project. IBI/HB Architects is the architect of record for the ARCOP + acdf-designed project. The structure's distinct cluster of three towers rising from a common podium, together with the unique glass skin that will wrap the exterior of the complex, will help make it a standout destination for tourists and locals alike.

The property's three towers will come in the form of two hotels. The largest will be operated by JW Marriott and house 288 guest rooms and 41 suites. A signature hotel called The Douglas — named after notable Canadian explorer David Douglas — will offer 178 guest rooms and 10 suites.

Once completed in January 2017, the complex will be the new home of the nearby Edgewater Casino, and will host 600 gaming slots, 75 table games, a convention space, five restaurants, a spa, and 5,000 square feet of retail space. Together with BC Place, the casino, hotel, and spa will surely be a draw for tourists, with the development's central location a boon for anyone visiting the city.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
