In the five months since our last update, progress has been moving along at the site of ZOM and AIG's Stantec-designed Solitair Brickell. The soon-to-be 50-storey, 438-unit residential tower is now soaring high into the blue Miami sky. Nearly topped off, and with its signature saw-tooth, palm-tree-inspired glass cladding climbing up the bulk of the tower, it will not be long until the quickly growing Brickell district's latest highrise is complete, with construction scheduled to wrap up in 2018.
Inspired by the scaly exterior of the Medjool date palm tree, Solitair Brickell's features an exterior designed to mimic the tree's distinctive texture. The iconic trees are synonymous with Miami's unique tropical climate and geography. Practical as well, the distinctive saw-tooth arrangement will help reduce the effects of Miami's legendary sunlight, as the angled panes will deflect the sun's rays in an effort to reduce energy costs while maintaining prime cityscape and ocean views.
Located within the heart of the rapidly rising Brickell district just south of downtown, Solitair Brickell will soon be nieghbours with the massive mixed-use Brickell City Center complex, a shopping, dining, and entertainment centre that is set to become the anchor of the new neighbourhood. Well connected to transit and within easy walking distance to many of Miami's best shops, restaurants, and bars, the new tower will be a popular address.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
