Canada's urbanization continues at a steady pace, with its biggest cities densifying through the construction of numerous highrises and street-animating mid-rises. Calgary completed their tallest building this year, Vancouver's second-tallest building opened in 2017, and Edmonton and Toronto will both see new tallest buildings in the coming years. To provide a snapshot of how the urban fabric has evolved across these cities this year, and to recognize which developments have had the greatest resonance with our readers, our communities in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver are hosting annual year-end polls.

Through careful observation and the help of our community, a list of 2017's building completions has been created. But which of these projects are the darlings of the SkyriseCities network? You have the opportunity to select your favourites. To even the playing field a bit, the nominees have been split into multiple categories organized by height.

For the purposes of the survey, we've classified projects as complete if construction activity has evidently concluded and the building is visibly occupied, even if just on one floor. The survey has been designed to be as comprehensive and inclusive as possible, but if any of your favourite projects are not listed, we've added an 'other' option at the bottom of each poll.

With so many great buildings stacked into the two categories, it might be difficult to pick a favourite. So we've lessened the burden by allowing you to select up to three projects in each category. All building entries feature a link to the respective Database file or Forum thread, where you can learn more about the development to help inform your decision.

All surveys will be closed at midnight on January 1st when we ring in the new year, with the results posted the following day. You don't have to be a SkyriseCities member to participate. You can find the links to the surveys below:
