Four months since we last checked in at the site of Jean Nouvel's 53W53, and the 320-metre tower's pinnacle has emerged into daylight. Recent images on our Forum highlight the progress to date on the 82-storey supertall development that now sits atop the MoMA in Midtown Manhattan, the appearance of the tower's skeletal peak signalling the final days for the project's well-documented ascent.

Composed of multiple tapered volumes, the three largest of which converge as a trio with the the tallest central segment flanked by two slightly shorter volumes, 53W53's sculptural aesthetic serves the tower well. Viewed clearly above and below, the three tallest volumes each follow their own specific, albeit complimentary upward trajectories, the two flanking volumes falling away to allow the centre volume to create a singular peak.

Developed by HinesGoldman Sachs Real Estate, and Singapore-based Pontiac Land Group, 53W53 has quickly become a local fan favourite, its signature exoskeleton and sharp silhouette making for a highly distinctive addition to the New York skyline.

Viewed below, one of the most intriguing aspects of 53W53's construction process has been the gradual ascent of the large construction hoist that has risen in step with the tower. Necessary due to the lack of flat sides, the hoist has allowed work to progress as usual. Once removed, 53W53's sleek lines will be revealed, its sculptural quality to be appreciated from every angle.

53W53 will eventually be home to 145 luxury residences, ranging from one- to five-bedroom suites. Due to the tower's angular shape, each suite will come with its own distinct layout and view. Amenities will include a fitness centre, golf simulator, squash court, theatre, and children's play room. There will also be a wellness centre outfitted with a 17,000 square-foot pool, and a double-height, fully-equipped lounge. The base of the tower will retain three floors of permanent additional gallery space for the MoMA down at street level.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
