Extell Development Company's Brooklyn Point is now officially the tallest building in the New York City borough. The real estate firm's first Brooklyn project has topped out at 68 storeys and 220 metres, with closings scheduled to begin in early 2020.
Designed as two folded sheets by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, the Downtown Brooklyn skyscraper slopes upwards to lend a unique profile to the growing borough's skyline. A retail podium meets the street while a mix of studio to three-bedroom residences occupy the bulk of the tower.
"At Brooklyn Point, we wanted to honor the creative spirit of Brooklyn, while crafting a new landmark for the borough’s downtown," said KPF Design Principal Rob Whitlock. "To that end, we picked up on the diversity of scale and texture of the site’s context in the building’s expression. Brooklyn Point features a sculptural façade, with an eclectic materiality that plays with light and shadow, giving the tower an elegant solidity."
Residences are coupled with an amenities package spanning over 40,000 square feet of exterior and interior space. The building's rooftop includes the highest residential infinity pool in the Western Hemisphere, serving up sweeping views of the Manhattan cityscape. A sundeck, al fresco dining areas, changing rooms, showers and an outdoor movie screening space are situated next to the pool. An additional outdoor terrace on the ninth floor offers more al fresco dining areas with gas grills, a putting green, and lounge areas.
Brooklyn Point also comes with a health and wellness facility, complete with a 65-foot-long indoor saltwater swimming pool, 35-foot-high rock climbing wall and yoga studio, cycling studios, infrared sauna, steam rooms, hot tub, and a squash/basketball court. Social and entertainment spaces include the triple-height Park Lounge, which features a signature bar, salon, fireplace, co-working area, chef's demonstration kitchen, wine library, game lounge, screening room, private study, and children's playroom.

Brooklyn Point rises above City Point, a 600,000-square-foot retail, dining and entertainment destination. The complex is currently home to Target, Trader Joe's, Alama Drafthouse, Century 21, and DeKalb Market Hall, a major food emporium with over 40 vendors.
