Eighteen months since our last update, and construction at the long-anticipated One Chicago Square has now officially begun. Set to rise 295 metres, the nearly supertall 78- and 49-storey two-tower development will eventually be home to 812 apartment and condo units.

Located at 733-755 North Dearborn Street in River North, adjacent to the Chicago Subway Station and opposite the historic Holy Name Cathedral, One Chicago Square represents en entire city block's worth of prime downtown real estate. Developed by JDL Development with Goettsch Partners and Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, One Chicago Square will be a massive site, complete with two high-rises and a common, multi-storey, commercial podium base.

With construction now underway, work crews have been hard at the task of drilling and shoring, with massive secant pile walls now appearing along the perimeter of the site. Construction is expected to continue for the next 40-42 months, thereby setting the project's completion date for late 2022.

The $850 million (USD) project will be a transformative development for River North, bringing a great deal of height and density to the neighbourhood. The future home for more than 1,200 new residents, One Chicago Square will be a fine addition to the city centre - the largest of its kind since Vista Tower.

SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
