Vista Tower, a gargantuan three-volume development located at the corner of E Lower Wacker and N Columbus Drive, has been full steam ahead with cladding now advancing to the upper storeys. The supertall structure is set to house 406 condominium units, as well as the 5-star Wanda Vista with 210 hotel rooms.
Developed jointly by Magellan Development Group and Wanda Group, Vista will rise 101 storeys to a final height of 363 metres (1,190 ft) making it the tallest building under construction in the United States outside of New York City. Upon completion, Vista Tower will become the third-tallest building in Chicago behind the Willis Tower and the Trump International Tower.
Designed by local firm bKL Architecture, Vista Tower features a dark blue, undulating glass curtain wall that is synchronous across all three volumes. This massing technique is quite visually pleasing, even to the untrained eye, and will be sure to have a long-lasting visual impact on the world-famous Chicago skyline.
Since our last update back in the beginning of July, cladding has progressed steadily on all three towers as the building nears completion. Cladding has been completed on the smallest tower with the same (almost) to be said for the middle tower which has only two storeys left. The tallest tower has cladding covering roughly 2/3 of the building as per recent photos on our Forum.
Work is expected to wrap up on the Vista Tower in 2020 with occupancy soon to follow. The tower has already become a household name in a city filled with enormous towers and will be for years to come.
SkyriseCities will be sure to return to this project as progress continues. For more information, check out the associated Database file and Forum thread, and as always, feel free to join the conversation in the comments section below.
